Tawa Roti: Reviews & Ratings
Hi guys back with another honest review Service: The service was excellent. Staff were friendly and patient. The food was served quickly and it was hot. Overall Score: 10/10 Food: Chicken Curry Roti which was good and would score it 8/10. Stew Chicken Roti and we asked for pumpkin inside with slight pepper was wonderful. This was a 10/10 Curry Goat with Buss up Shot with slight pepper was very good. The pepper is strong so if you can't take pepper you have been warned. Pumpkin was Amazing this was the best dish! It was so good, I order another portion before I left. 10/10 Phalourie Balls were soft but felt the tamarind sauce could be slight sweeter. Would give this 7/10 Macaroni Pie was okay but the pepper on top gave it extra flavour. 7.5/10 The Doubles are another star of the show at this restaurant. I added pumpkin in mine and my friends had it with pepper. We all agreed it was 10/10. Again we ordered another portion before we left. Sorrel Juice was lovely I could have drank 2 of these 9/10 Overall: The food is seasoned well and made with love. You can tell as you watch the staff make the roti and buss up shot fresh. The portion size are good and filling. Atmosphere: When you walk in it is a takeaway restaurant but it does have seats around the sides. I felt like I was back home in Carribbean really warm and lovely vibe. The shop is busy which I love to see a business thriving. Overall: I would highly recommend this restaurant to others. It is a great take away. If I lived closer I would be here every day.
Proper Trini food done right. Quick friendly service and you can see everything being made in front of you. One customer said best doubles in London and it's hard to disagree. We had the shrimp Dal Puri, doubles, macaroni pie and pholourie, all fresh, great and not greasy at all. We'll be back to try the buss up shot and everything else. Would recommend

Tucked away on Clapham High Street, Tawa Roti brings the vibrant heart of Caribbean, and specifically Trinidadian, cuisine to London with an authenticity that captivates the senses. This spot isn’t just another Caribbean takeaway; it’s a genuine gateway to the rich, spicy flavors and comforting aromas that define Trini food culture.
The menu is a celebration of classics done right. The Goat Roti is a standout—tender, slow-cooked goat enveloped by soft, freshly made roti that melts in your mouth. Alongside it, the Chicken Curry offers a perfect balance of depth and warmth, infused with aromatic spices that linger just right. What truly sets Tawa Roti apart, however, is the care in preparation and seasoning; every bite sings with layers of flavor that feel both hearty and home-cooked.
A particular dish that left a profound impression is the Goat with Rice. The meat is succulent, richly spiced, and paired expertly with fluffy rice that absorbs the curry’s essence beautifully. The Lamb Curry Roti also deserves acclaim for its tender meat and the vibrant curry that coats it. Vegetables like Collard Greens add a healthy, flavorful counterpoint, while options like Polenta bring a subtle twist to the traditional spread.
Beyond the mains, the sides and snacks shape the experience into something memorable. The beloved Doubles here live up to their reputation as a London favorite—fresh, soft bara bread hugging a spicy channa filling, often enhanced with pumpkin or a fiery pepper kick. Trust the locals; these doubles demand a second helping. Additionally, the Phalourie Balls offer a soft, satisfying texture, though their accompanying tamarind sauce could tempt a touch more sweetness.
Refreshing beverages like Coconut Water and Sorrel Juice provide a cooling foil to the spices, rounding off the meal with tropical authenticity. Watching the staff craft buss up shots and roti fresh in front of you adds a personal touch that echoes the warmth of Caribbean hospitality.
The atmosphere, while straightforward and leaning towards takeaway convenience, radiates a homely Caribbean vibe. It’s bustling, warm, and alive with the energy of a thriving local favorite. The attentive and friendly staff elevate the experience, ensuring every visit feels welcoming and genuine.
If you seek richly seasoned, lovingly prepared Caribbean food with a strong Trinidadian soul, Tawa Roti is not just a meal—it’s an invitation to savor tradition. Whether it’s your first venture into Trini cuisine or a nostalgic return, this gem in South London delivers consistently exceptional food and heartfelt service that will have you coming back for more.
